ABOUT THE ARTIST

I'm Tiana, a self-taught artist and mother living in the beautiful driftless region of La Crosse, Wisconsin. My diverse work ranges from street art to pencil drawings, and murals to mixed-media portrait paintings. My work has been shown in juried shows and galleries across the United States. When I'm not in the studio I enjoy exploring folk herbalism, natural waters, thrift/vintage shops, good books, and making felt toys for my daughter.

My art explores the psychology of motherhood, taboos, and archetypes through a feminist lens. I am pulled by many mediums and subjects which culminate into stand alone series of work.
I am currently focused on figurative work as a way to counter the male gaze and examine emotions held within the body.
My Tea Drawings series is drawn from my love of vintage adornment and self-expression, as well as herbalism. The tea-stained paper bathes the viewer in evocation and nostalgia.
I draw from the deep well of feminism and my experience to create my colorful works exploring the institution and psychology of motherhood. I am often excavating life cycles along with the guilt, anxiety, joy, and love that come with being someone's mama. My goal is to share the love, pain, and vulnerability of motherhood, to highlight what goes unseen, and weave these personal experiences with collective and arcane symbolism.

I started this blog on my website but I needed more space to continue my occasional posts. Over at my website you can find my CV, shop, galleries, and more.
