There is nothing like a museum visit to get your artistic juices flowing!
The sculpture garden is always fun to explore. The iconic cherry was overlooking a family of Canada geese with three fluffy chicks.
September Room by Mark Manders is one of my favorites in the garden.
My kid was most excited to see some Yoko Ono! Cut Piece was on display.
I was most excited to see an Alice Neel! One of my favorite artists of all time.
An early Kusama.
A Helen Frankenthaler and Anges Martin. Looking at each other from across the room. I enjoyed reading about these two fantastic artists in the book Ninth Street Women: Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler: Five Painters and the Movement That Changed Modern Art. I highly recommend giving it a read!
Of course, my phone camera doesn't do these works justice. You will have to make the trip yourself! The Pacita Abad exhibition was wonderful as well. I know the Walker has some Ana Mendieta and Louise Bourgeois that were not on display this visit, so I will just have to go back!
Into the studio I go! Illness and caretaking and recovery has kept me out of practice for a good three weeks! I have quite a lot I would like to do this summer. Murals, large-scale work, art markets, illustrating, toy making, ceramics, and walls to fill! Let's get to painting!
