Taking a break from cranking out new drawings to have a little fun! I have a previous blog post all about my love of art mail. (It's at the bottom of this page if you want to read it.) I have wanted to do an art mail exchange for a while now. I found The Elevated Envelope recently and decided to sign up for the first time!
The prompt was 🌈 RAINBOW 🌈 I wanted to create something unique for each person in my group. I also wanted to have fun. No artist perfectionism allowed, just play!

The first on the list was going to a middle school art teacher, so I went with this classroom motif. I wish I had more art-themed stamps for this one but I have too many so I resisted the urge to buy more just for one envelope. (P.S. I just saw they put out some Strega Nona stamps... I might have to take that back.)
For the second one, I wanted to try to make rainbow more moody. I though of this design right away.
For the third envelope, I wanted to do something inspired by a mash-up of a recent dream, a '60s fashion ad, and rainbow colors!
The last envelope is on it's way to the host of our exchange. I was inspired by my love of snakes and their symbolism. The serpent is associated with female empowerment and rebirth. In some myths, it appears as a rainbow serpent!

I had received a few notes about each participant. So inside, I put a few art goodies that matched their interests or things mentioned about them. Each one also got a handwritten note from me. One of them got rose petals from my garden and a hand painted cat bookmark. For the art teacher, a mini watercolor painting of her pet (it mentioned the breed so I hope it resembles him 😆) and a short story. And the other received hand-painted ephemera to use in future art mail and a drawing of an eye. In the last envelope, for the host of the exchanges, I put in a handwritten rainy day playlist, and another eye drawing.

I think if I participate in another mail art exchange I would like to challenge myself to work in a medium I normally don't use in my art. Maybe hand-carved stamps? Collage? Fabric?!
I can't wait to receive all of their mail art soon!
