A quick round up of some recent inspirations, studio activity, and news!
I have been sketching and making small works recently. Mostly in colored pencil and some occasional oil pastels. I've been working on submissions for new opportunities.
We visited the John Micheal Kohler arts preserve! It is 3 floors filled with collections of outsider art! An "Outsider Artist" is someone who is untrained and making work outside of traditional art institutions. Kohler Arts rescues these outsider collections to save the artworks from demolition and decay. I have visited many of their sites but never the museum before. I loved it! The thing I love about "outsider" artists is that they may have never made art before and then one day they felt the intense urge to create. This need deep inside them, and they didn't do it for money or status or anything really except to feed the desire within them. Some of them making concrete sculptures to fill their properties, turning their apartments into installation, some collecting discarded material and turning into something beautiful and meaningful. Oh and if you go, check out each and every artist-designed bathroom! They are there own art installations!!
I have begun working on a commissioned drawing. I am so excited about this one! Brewing tea, marking the page, pencil in hand... I'm excited to work with my client to make some magic!
I am also planning for a pop-up and an upcoming art market! Things are busy but the energy in the studio is electric!
